REPORT RECOMMENDATION

That the Health, Recreation and Social Services Committee direct staff to prepare a report to discuss a process that would allow for ball hockey to be played on city streets and that the report include a component on public consultation and the type of roadway that would be appropriate for road hockey.

BACKGROUND

On 6 April 2006, Chair Holmes put forward the following Notice of Motion, for consideration at a subsequent meeting:

Whereas in 2003 Ottawa City Council amalgamated the Traffic and Parking By-law (2003-530) regulating traffic and parking on highways,

And Whereas section 93 of By-law 2003-530 prohibits the playing of “any game or sport upon a roadway”,

And Whereas road hockey is widely accepted as a traditional pastime for children year round,

Therefore be it resolved that Recreation staff prepare a report to discuss a process that would allow for ball hockey to be played on city streets,

And further be it resolved that the report include a component on public consultation and the type of roadway that would be appropriate for road hockey.
