The following
proclamation was presented to Nicole Parent, Chair of the
Ottawa Forests and Greenspace Advisory Committee and David Barkley, Manager of
Forestry Services:
WHEREAS, National Tree Day serves as a
celebration for all Canadians to appreciate the great benefits that trees
provide us: clean air, wildlife habitat, reducing energy demand and connecting
with nature; and
WHEREAS, trees filter the air by producing
oxygen and sequestrating carbon monoxide and other pollutants; they also reduce
water run-off and soil erosion and keep local waterways clean; and
WHEREAS, the Forests and Greenspace Advisory Committee approved a motion to
designate an official day in observance of the International Year of Forests
and that this be during Canada's National Forest Week from September
18-24, 2011;
THEREFORE, I, Jim Watson, Mayor of the City of Ottawa, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, September 20, 2011 as
Tree Day in Ottawa.

DIRECTION TO STAFF :
Staff to provide the Committee
with a value engineering assessment process of the project and the amount of
the money spent from the funding that was previously approved by Council. Staff to also provide the status on the test
project of porous concrete.
This report will be
presented to Council on 28 September 2011.

Councillor S. Desroches
WHEREAS taxpayers and ratepayers who mistakenly direct payments for
property taxes or for water and sewer charges to wrong accounts are charged a
$31 payment distribution fee, as per By-law No. 2010-111, to cover the
administrative costs of distributing the payment to the correct accounts;
AND WHEREAS taxpayers and ratepayers regularly contact Councillors and
staff requesting that a change of policy be made to waive this fee when it is
applied to a ratepayer for the first time where the City is in receipt of the
payment;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Environment Committee recommend
Council approve:
A by-law of the City of Ottawa to amend By-law No.
2010-111 respecting certain fees and charges in the Revenue Division.
The Council of the City of Ottawa enacts as follows:
1.
Schedule “B”, Revenue Branch Fees, of By-law No. 2010-111 entitled
“A by-law of the City of Ottawa to establish fees and charges for services,
activities and information provided by the Revenue Branch of the Finance
Department of the City Manager’s Office, is amended by striking out the dollar
figure “31.00” where it occurs in Column 2 next to “Payment distribution” and
substituting:
0.00 (First
time) 31.00 (Second or subsequent time) |
