Advertisements to
recruit members to Advisory Committees were placed in the daily and weekly
newspapers the weeks of 20 and 27 April 2001.
Advertisements were also forwarded to all City facilities including
Client Service Centres, libraries, sports facilities
and community centres. All Community Associations including those
representing various interests were also notified about the recruitment
process. The recruitment flyer was also
sent to all area high schools, colleges and universities, as well as youth
organizations and associations. All area
high schools were contacted requesting that an announcement be placed notifying
students about the Ottawa Youth Cabinet.
Applications
closed on 4 May 2001. At the request of
a number of high schools and youth organizations, applications were accepted
until 11 May 2001, and applications were separated by ward and forwarded to
each ward Councillor for consideration.
Members
of Council were polled to indicate interest in serving on all Advisory
Committees, and the results of the survey were considered at the Nominating
Committee meeting of 4 May 2001. On 9
May 2001, Council approved appointment of Councillors
Harder, Little and Bloess as Youth Advocates to the Ottawa Youth Cabinet.
The
recommendations of members to the Ottawa Youth Cabinet have been put forward
for each ward, and are listed for approval of Committee and Council. The role of the reserve member is outlined in
the Appointments Policy approved by Council on 28 March 2001, where these
members will be appointed should a vacancy occur whether through registration
or where the appointed member misses more than three consecutive meetings.
See above regarding
the recruitment process for members.
