REPORT RECOMMENDATION
That the Corporate Services
and Economic Development Committee recommend Council approve the appointment of
Alain Samson and John Therien to the Vanier Business Improvement Area Board of
Management for the term expiring November 30, 2006.

nomination de Alain Samson et John Therien au conseil de gestion de la Zone
d’amélioration commerciale de Vanier pour un mandat prenant fin le 30 novembre
2006.
Section 204 of the Municipal Act,
2001 requires that the municipality appoint Business Improvement Area (BIA)
Board members.
According to its by-law (By-law No.
2792), the Vanier Business Improvement Area is entitled to “a maximum of nine
(9) members, at least one of whom shall be a member of Council”.
At its 17 December 2003 meeting,
City Council appointed Councillor Georges Bédard as its representative on the Vanier
Business Improvement Area Board of Management.
City Council approved the appointment of seven (7) business members to
the Vanier BIA on 11 February 2004. New
members were appointed to fill vacancies by Council at its meetings of 25 May
2005 and 12 April 2006.
In a letter dated 19 May 2006, the BIA requested the appointment of Alain Samson of Edward Jones (266 Beechwood Avenue) and John Therien of Therien Jiu-Jitsu & Kickboxing (21 Selkirk Street) to fill the remaining vacant positions on its Board of Management for the balance of the term, expiring on November 30, 2006.
The BIA undertakes consultation or recruitment of members. This is an administrative matter completed
on behalf of the BIA, therefore public consultation is not required.
