That the Corporate Services and Economic Development Committee recommend Council approve the appointment of Stephanie Eckford to the Barrhaven Business Improvement Area Board of Management for the term expiring November 30, 2010.

services organisationnels et du développement économique recommande au Conseil
municipal d’approuver la nomination de Stephanie Eckford au conseil de gestion
de la Zone d’amélioration commerciale de Barrhaven pour un mandat prenant fin
le 30 novembre 2010.
Section
204 of the Municipal Act, 2001 requires that the municipality appoint Business
Improvement Area (BIA) Board members.
According
to its by-law (By-law No. 2007-01), the Barrhaven Business Improvement Area is
entitled to “nine (9) members, two (2) of whom shall be members of
Council”.
At
its 14 December 2006 meeting, City Council appointed Councillors Jan Harder and
Steve Desroches as its representatives on the Barrhaven Business Improvement
Area Board of Management and at its 23 May 2007 meeting, City Council approved
the appointment of seven (7) business members to the Barrhaven BIA.
In
an email dated 14 February 2008, the BIA requested the appointment of Steffanie
Eckford, Scotiabank Branch manager, to replace Willy Bagnell.
Section 204 of the Municipal Act directs that Business Improvement Area Board members shall hold office until the expiration of the term of Council that appoints them. Therefore, Ms. Eckford's term will expire on November 30, 2010.
The
BIA undertakes consultation or recruitment of members. This is an administrative matter completed
on behalf of the BIA, therefore public consultation is not required.
There
are no financial implications related to this report.
