REPORT RECOMMENDATION

 

That the Transportation Committee recommend Ottawa City Council officially recognize the efforts of Surface Operations staff and commend them for their dedication and professionalism displayed throughout this winter season.

Que le Comité des transports recommande au Conseil de reconnaître officiellement les efforts du personnel des Opérations de surface et de le féliciter pour le dévouement et le professionnalisme dont il a fait preuve tout au long de l’hiver.

 

 

BACKGROUND

 

The Transportation Committee, at its meeting held at its meeting held on 19 March 2008, approved the following Motion brought forward by Chair McRae as a result of the Committee’s discussion on a presentation on Winter Operations.

 

WhereaS, to date, over 415 centimetres of snow has fallen this winter, placing this year second, in historical terms, for the most snow accumulation in one winter season;

 

AND WHEREAS, to date, over 103 centimetres has fallen in the month of March, including 56 centimetres that fell in one 36 hour period;

 

AND WHEREAS staff clear over 5,600 kilometres of roads, 60 kilometres of transitway and 1,900 kilometres of sidewalks and pathways every snow storm;

 

AND WHEREAS Surface Operations staff have worked tirelessly and efficiently to ensure the mobility and safe passage on the City’s transportation network with only a minimum of delay;

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Transportation Committee recommend Ottawa City Council officially recognize the efforts of Surface Operations staff and commend them for their dedication and professionalism displayed throughout this winter season

 

 

FINANCIAL IMPLICATIONS

 

There are no financial implications as a result of this recommendation.

Deputy City Manager, Public Works and Services to convey City Council’s recognition to Surface Operations Branch Staff.
