REPORT RECOMMENDATION

That the Planning and Environment Committee receive public delegations with respect to the following Auditor General’s reports (2009 Audit Reports) as referred by Council at its meeting of 23 June 2010, for subsequent consideration and approval of the audit recommendations by Council on 25 August 2010:

1. Audit of Eight Specific Building Code Services Files

2. Audit of a Specific House - Drawings

RECOMMANDATION DU RAPPORT

Que le Comité de l’urbanisme et de l’environnement reçoive les commentaires publics en ce qui concerne les rapports suivants du vérificateur général (Rapports de vérification de 2009) tels que référés par le Conseil à sa réunion du 23 juin 2010, et pour considération ultérieure et approbation des recommandations de ces vérifications par le Conseil, à sa réunion du 25 août 2010 :

1. Vérification de huit dossiers particuliers des services du code du bâtiment

2. Vérification de plans d’une maison précise

BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION

At the 23 June 2010 meeting of Ottawa City Council, the Auditor General tabled his 2009 Audit Reports, Volume 1 and 2. In tabling this report, Council approved the following referral motion:

That Council refer the 2009 Audit Reports to the appropriate Standing Committees for the purpose of receiving public delegations and for subsequent consideration and approval of the audit recommendations by Council at its meeting of August 25, 2010 as follows:

ii. Audit of Eight Specific Building Code Services Files to the Planning and Environment Committee;

iii. Audit of a Specific House - Drawings to the Planning and Environment Committee;

In accordance with the reporting protocol approved by Council for the Office of the Auditor General, the authority to “discuss and approve” the Auditor General’s reports rests with City Council. Therefore, the sole purpose of the referral to the Standing Committees is to provide an opportunity for public delegations to comment on the reports.

CONSULTATION

This item will be advertised in the local dailies as part of the Public Meeting Advertisement on Friday preceding the Community and Protective Services Committee Meeting.

There are no legal/risk management implications since the purpose is to receive public comments.

There are no financial implications since the purpose is to receive public comments.
