REPORT RECOMMENDATION

That the Transportation Committee recommend to Council that staff be directed to initiate a formal, permanent street closure for the portion of Clemow Avenue that crosses Central Park.

BACKGROUND

On 2 June 2010, the Transportation Committee received the aforementioned Notice of Motion with respect to the above. A full copy of the Motion is attached as Document 1 to this report.

DISCUSSION

The portion of Clemow Avenue that crosses Central Park has been blocked off to through traffic with large planters for close to 40 years. The closure is well-accepted and there are no grounds to consider ever reopening the street to through traffic.

The community would like have this section of unused roadway re-landscaped so the two sections of Central Park, on either side of Clemow Avenue, could be linked in a more pedestrian friendly manner.

This motion formalizes a long-standing situation and as such, the department is supportive.
