Research Reports

Annual Development Report - The Annual Development Report provides yearly updates and analysis on demographic data, employment, housing, the office and industrial markets and the retail and tourism sectors, summarizes development activity in the city of Ottawa, and measures these, where applicable, against the City's Official Plan objectives. The Annual Development Report also evaluates Ottawa's competitive positioning vis-à-vis Canada's other major cities.

Ottawa Counts - Topic-based discussion papers provide analysis on the people of Ottawa, who they are and how they live, work and commute.

The Residential Land Strategy [PDF - 3.7 MB] is an important background report to the 2009 Official Plan review that led to Official Plan Amendment 76. It summarizes the analysis used to determine the need for additional urban land, and identifies target areas for intensification, density and intensification targets for different areas, and actions required to support intensification.

Vacant Urban Residential Land Survey - This document monitors the supply of vacant residential land in Ottawa to determine if this supply meets policies in the City of Ottawa Official Plan and the Provincial Policy Statement.

Where Will We Live - A study that estimates the potential for additional dwelling units within the city's urban area, primarily through various forms of intensification, reflecting the 2003 Official Plan policies.

The Rural Residential Land Survey monitors lot creation, patterns of residential development, and housing potential in the rural area of the city of Ottawa.
