Proposed Amendments to the Permanent Signs on Private Property By-law 2016-326

Pursuant to By-law 2011-122 respecting public notice, the City of Ottawa is providing notice to the public regarding proposed amendments to the Permanent Signs on Private Property By-law (No. 2016-326).

The amendments affect signage regulations for a segment of Preston Street from Albert Street to Somerset Street which, under the By-law, would normally be subject to rules applicable to a Traditional Mainstreet (TM) zone.

Sign permit permissions for this section of Preston Street are being revised to recognize the recent rezoning of this area and to better reflect the character of the current and envisaged neighbourhood as outlined in the revised Bayview Station District Secondary Plan and its designation as a Secondary Traditional Mainstreet. Non-residential uses will be permitted appropriate signs so that businesses have adequate means of identification and the public can benefit from clear wayfinding. The impact of the permitted signs on residential uses will be mitigated by various means, including restrictions on the type of illumination allowed, where on the building or property signs can be located, and prohibiting some types of signs that would be found in a typical TM zone.

The staff report will be considered by the City of Ottawa Planning Committee on December 13, 2016. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Champlain Room, City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa.

A copy of the report will be available on ottawa.ca under the Council and Committee agendas. The Committee will consider any written submissions on this matter if provided to the Committee Coordinator of the Planning Committee at 110 Laurier Avenue West, Ottawa, K!P 1J1, by fax at 613-580-9609, or by email at melody.duffenais@ottawa.ca .
