  • Infant health promotion – e.g. breastfeeding education, home visits, Parenting in Ottawa Drop-ins
  • Healthy eating and active living promotion
  • Parenting support and education – e.g. Parenting in Ottawa Facebook page
  • Low Risk Alcohol Drinking Guidelines awareness
  • Mental health promotion
  • Injury prevention and safety promotion
  • Food skills and access to healthy foods projects
  • Work to create neighbourhoods where people feel safe to walk
  • Prevention of ultraviolet radiation exposure e.g. tanning salons, sun safety

  • Immunization promotion and monitoring
  • School immunization clinics and community flu immunization clinics

  • Falls prevention e.g. screening, education and awareness

Protection

  • Tuberculosis and communicable disease management
  • Food premise inspections e.g. restaurants, grocery stores
  • Food Handler Certification training
  • Personal service settings inspections e.g. multi-service spas, tattoo parlours
  • Management of infectious diseases outbreaks in institutions e.g. hospitals, long-term care homes, child care centres and schools
  • Rabies control and surveillance
  • Mosquito control and West Nile virus monitoring
