Further to the June 2016 Construction Notice, the City of Ottawa (City) has begun construction work in your neighbourhood. This work is being conducted to build a Multi-Use Pathway in your community. The City wishes to advise you that a short term closure of Klondike Road is required as part of this project for the safe unloading and placement of a concrete culvert in Shirley’s Brook.
Who: The City of Ottawa has hired Ottawa D-Squared Construction Limited to complete the work.
Why:This work is needed to provide a safe pedestrian and cycling link in your community.
What: The work will involve the short term closure of Klondike Road to vehicular traffic for the safe unloading and placement of a concrete culvert in Shirley’ Brook. Once the culvert has been placed, work will continue so that the new Pathway can be constructed over the Brook.
Where:The road closure and work will be conducted within the City’s right-of-way at Shirley’s Brook, on Klondike Road between March Road and Sandhill Road. Every effort is being made to reduce the duration of the construction impacts in your community.
When: The closure of Klondike Road is scheduled to occur on July 8, 2016 from 12:50pm to 1:50 pm to accommodate the culvert installation. Construction activities are expected to resume immediately after the noted period and last until the end of September 2016.
The City of Ottawa Noise By-law (2004-253) allows construction activity to occur weekdays between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. On Saturdays, work is permitted between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., while Sunday and statutory holiday work is allowed between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. The Contractor has advised the City that typical construction hours will be weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Accessibility is an important consideration for the City of Ottawa. The City makes every effort to provide access through and around construction sites. If you require special accommodation, please contact the Contractor’s Administrator or the City’s Project Manager noted below.
Ottawa D-Squared Construction Limited is assuming full responsibility for the construction work until the work is entirely complete in 2016. The Contractor will take every precaution necessary to minimize interruptions to the everyday life of your family and/or operation of your business, but as you can appreciate, there may be some inconvenience during the course of the work, such as delays and traffic detours when travelling through the construction zone, noise, dust and vibration. We would like to thank you in advance for your patience and co-operation.
Access to homes, businesses and the Church on the closed section of Klondike Road shall be maintained during the closure period. Detour routes will be posted.
For those using OC Transpo Route #93 before, after and during the closure period, your bus stop and route may be affected. Refer to the OC Transpo Travel Planner for specific alternative bus stops, detours or impacts.
In the event that access to your driveway is restricted due to construction activities, the On-Site Inspector will provide you with a temporary On-Street Parking Permit (orange form) to authorize on-street parking within a few blocks of your residence.
It should also be noted that, the Contractor assumes full responsibility for the construction work until completion as well as for any damages to private property resulting from these construction activities. In the event of such occurrences, all claims for damages should be immediately reported both verbally and in writing to the Contractor and to the On-Site Inspector. This will ensure prompt notification of appropriate authorities to complete the claim investigations. Also, the City will be taking photographs to ensure private properties are returned to their original or better condition.
