Geotechnical investigation notice (July 2016)

St. Joseph Boulevard watermain repairs including sidewalk replacement (south side)

In late July 2016, the City of Ottawa will begin geotechnical and environmental investigation work related to the proposed St. Joseph Boulevard watermain repair construction project from St. Jean Street to Champlain Street (in the eastbound lane).

Who: The City of Ottawa engaged Robinson Consultants Inc. to prepare the design and construction documents for the renewal of the 610mm watermain in the north side of St. Joseph Boulevard from St. Jean Street to Champlain Street.

Robinson Consultants Inc. were also engaged to prepare the design and construction documents for the replacement of the existing concrete curb and sidewalk on the south side of St. Joseph Boulevard from St. Jean Street to Belcourt Boulevard and Edgar Brault Street to 70m west of Place D’Orléans Drive.

Why: The purpose of this work is to improve the reliability of the Water Distribution System. The renewal work will include the replacement of a section of watermain in St. Joseph Boulevard between St. Jean Street and Belcourt Boulevard.

What: Work will involve the replacement of all sections of watermain in St. Joseph Boulevard between St. Pierre Street and Maisonneuve Street, including the replacement of a section of watermain in St. Joseph Boulevard between Place D’Orléans Drive and Champlain Street.

When: As part of the geotechnical/environmental investigation work associated with this project, a geotechnical consultant (Houle Chevrier Engineering) will be completing field work on St. Joseph Boulevard eastbound lanes starting July 28th, 2016 with anticipated completion date July 29th, 2016.  Typical hours of work will be from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 pm. The work entails advancing boreholes within the City’s road allowance to ascertain subsurface conditions. The proposed work plan includes drilling a total of three (3) boreholes (one borehole at St. Pierre Street, one at Edgar Brault Street and one just east of Maisonneuve Street).

Before commencing the work, the drilling contractor will need to obtain utility locates and apply for a road cut permit from the City. No detours are to be implemented since work for each borehole is of short duration and one travel lane will be maintained at all time at the drilling site.

The Contractor is obligated to provide 24 hour notification of temporary loss of access/egress from any entrance way.

Where: St. Joseph Boulevard from St. Jean Street to Champlain Street (in the eastbound lane).
