A helping hand

October 2, 2015
Feature Stories

In response to a global refugee crisis, Ottawa is showing a spirit of caring and generosity we can all be proud of.

We opened our doors and our hearts to Vietnamese refugees in the 1970s, and we now have the chance to build on that record of compassion by extending meaningful support to the men, women and children seeking refuge from war and instability in Syria.

How you can help

Get informed

If you are interested sponsoring refugees, volunteering your time or learning where to donate, Refugee 613 is your first point of reference. Refugee 613 acts as an information hub and will coordinate refugee resettlement efforts in Ottawa.

You can also e-subscribe for future updates on the resettlement efforts.

Launched by a group of community partners, United for Refugees is focused on raising the necessary funds for the sponsorship and settlement of refugees affected by the Syrian crisis.  You can make a contribution by visiting (#UnitedforRefugees) or calling 613-228-6767.

Be a sponsor

The Refugee Sponsorship Support Program brings together pro-bono lawyers, law students, and sponsorship experts to support Canadians seeking to sponsor refugees. The idea is to help more Canadians help more refugees by connecting them with legal experts who can assist them in navigating the complex sponsorship process. If you work in this field already and can volunteer your time and expertise, the Refugee Sponsorship Support Program would love to hear from you.
