Road closures will be in effect along Bronson Avenue between Gladstone Avenue and Laurier Avenue beginning April 8, 2013.
The intersection of Bronson Avenue and Somerset Street will be closed on April 8 for a period of 8 weeks.
Bronson Avenue will be closed from Gladstone Avenue to Somerset Street beginning on April 8 for approximately nine weeks.
Bronson Avenue from Somerset Street to Laurier Avenue will be closed beginning April 8 for approximately six months.
Businesses remain open as usual along Bronson Avenue and Somerset Street. Local traffic and business access to Bronson Avenue will be through local sidestreets. Local access to Somerset Street will continue at Percy and Arthur. Pedestrian connectivity will be maintained through Somerset intersection during the construction.

Project description
The Bronson construction project is the first phase of the two-year $30-million project being completed to replace water and sewer pipes that are in some cases 130 years old. It will involve installing a large feeder main to supply water to southern sections of the city, improving cycling connections, rebuilding the deteriorating roadway and improving the street through new trees, street furniture, sidewalks and artwork.
The project also includes installation of a signalized crosswalk at Arlington Avenue to improve pedestrian safety.
This infrastructure renewal project of rebuilding Bronson Avenue between Laurier Avenue and Arlington Avenue, will take two years to complete.
The reconstruction of Bronson Avenue is part of the Ottawa on the Move is an initiative that is resulting in roadwork and bridge repair, sidewalk upgrades, sewer and culvert improvements and cycling infrastructure investment across Ottawa. These projects are being accelerated in advance of construction for Ottawa’s Light Rail Transit project and the celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017.
During the Ottawa on the Move program, transportation disruptions are inevitable and residents are encouraged to look at travel options including cycling, transit and walking, commuting during off peak hours or telecommuting.
Public involvement
A Bronson Avenue Public Consultation Working Group has been involved to provide input into the planning and design process. This group consists of a wide range of agency, community, and business stakeholders. General public input and comment will be welcomed throughout project.
