City Policies Related to Accessibility

In 2003, the City adopted a Multiple Formats Policy to ensure that the municipality is as inclusive and barrier-free as possible. Examples of multiple formats include .html, accessible adobe .pdf, plain text, large print, electronic text and Braille. The policy provides that:

• Council and committee agenda indexes are produced automatically in accessible formats;
• Copies of large-scale documents for city-wide public consultation are produced automatically in certain multiple formats for distribution to selected library branches and client service centres; and
• Other documents will be made available to citizens in specific multiple formats upon request:
• in person at any Client Service Centre
• by calling 3-1-1 (613-580-2400) / 613-580-2401 (TTY)
• by completing the online form
• or by e-mailing 311@ottawa.ca

City Council approved an Equity and Diversity Policy in November 2002. The policy aims towards eliminating discrimination in the City. It ensures equity and diversity in employment and it also ensures residents and others have access to City facilities, products, services, and grants as defined by human rights legislation.
