If you have a disability, it may be difficult to find a job that can accommodate your unique needs. However, there are several places in Ottawa that can be an ideal place for you to work. The trick is to find them. We've gathered together some programs and resources to help you in your search. Take a look.
Employment Supports For People With Disabilities (ODSP)
What is it?
Provides the employment supports people with disabilities need to get and keep jobs.
Who Funds It?
The Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services.
Who can use the services?
People with a physical or mental impairment that presents a substantial barrier to employment.
What services are available?
Help with planning, training and supports including technical aids, interpreter services and travel costs. If you presently receive ODSP, call your case worker.
Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)
What is it?
Workplace safety and insurance for workers in Ontario.
Who Funds It?
The Government of Ontario.
Who can use the services?
Persons eligible for WSIB benefits.
What services are available?
Contact your local WSIB office.
Canada Pension Plan
What is it?
An income support program for people with disabilities.
Who Funds It?
Human Resource Development Canada.
Who can use the services?
Anyone who has paid into the Canada Pension Plan.
What services are available?
Disability pension benefits.
The In Community
Community resource centre and network for disabled persons
Who Funds It?
The In Community is funded by the United Way.
Who can use the services?
Any person with a disability.
Ontario March of Dimes
What is it?
Resource network for persons with disabilities.
Who Funds It?
Partial government funding and private donations.
Who can use the services?
Any person with a disability, however some restrictions may apply to individual programs.
What services are available?
Personal and employment supports and programs, vocational assessments, work re-entry programs, individual counselling, and other related resources.
