Southwest Transitway Extension (Baseline Rd to Norice St)Project OverviewThe Southwest (SW) Transitway is a fully grade-separated facility to be located within the existing transitway-protected corridor between Baseline Road and Norice Street. The design and construction of this transitway facility is to be coordinated with the construction of the proposed Algonquin College Centre for Construction Trades and Building Sciences (CCTBS) building and the City of Ottawa’s Archives/Library Technical Services Facility (Tallwood Drive). A construction start on the Algonquin College CCTBS building is anticipated to begin in October 2009 for a scheduled September 2011 completion. The proposed CCTBS building is located on the existing Baseline Transit Station lands. To facilitate the proposed October 2009 CCTBS building construction start, the existing Baseline Station Transitway operations will have to be relocated to a location west of the future SW Transitway corridor, with the provision of a proposed station entrance located south of the existing park and ride lot. Construction of the final Baseline Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)/Light Rail Transit (LRT) multi-modal passenger and bus terminal station which is to be located on the south side of College Avenue Extension, will commence after the construction of the CCTBS building and College Avenue Extension have been finished. The proposed SW Transitway BRT/LRT Extension project will consist of the construction of the Navaho Drive and College Avenue Extensions west of Woodroffe Avenue and modifications to the Woodroffe Avenue traffic signal controlled intersections at Navaho Drive, College Avenue and Tallwood Drive. The timelines required to undertake and complete the design and construction of the SW Transitway Extension from Baseline Road to Norice Street must be undertaken in a series of phases noted below: Phase IA (May 2009 - August 2011)
Phase IB (April 2010 - November 2010)
Phase II (2011-2013)
Phase III (2016 and Onwards)
