How You Can Help Us Clear the Way for YouClearing snow on your propertyUse and Care of Roads By-Law No. 2003-498 and Parks and Facilities By-Law No. 2004-276 prohibit the disposal of snow or ice on roadways or in any park. When clearing snow from your driveway or walkway, do not deposit snow on the roadway, sidewalk or in a park. If you hire a contractor to clear your driveway, please ensure that these rules are respected. If these rules are not followed, you may be charged with an offence and may be subject to a fine. The Use and Care of Roads By- Law No. 2003-498 also prohibits the placement of markers on any portion of a highway, including the boulevard. Snow removal equipment may be damaged by the metal markers used by residents to define their property line for private snow removal. As well, posting these markers right at the edge of the roadway may cause more snow to be placed in the travelled portion of the roadway and can compromise safety. Homeowners may continue to define their property line by using wooden markers that should be no larger than a hockey stick. Snow Clearing and Removal OperationsTo ensure safe road and sidewalk snow clearing operations use caution around snow clearing and removal equipment. Recycling and garbagePlease do not place your garbage bags or recycling boxes on top of snow banks. Place your garbage containers, bags and recycling boxes on the ground as close as possible to the roadway, but not on the sidewalk or the travelled roadway. This will prevent your garbage containers, bags and recycling boxes from being damaged during snow clearing and removal. Winter ParkingComply with the winter overnight parking bans and snow removal parking restrictions. To ensure efficient sidewalk winter control, please do not block the sidewalk with your vehicle. Make sure your vehicle is parked well within your driveway in accordance with Traffic and Parking By-law 2003-530. Report Potholes! Please report any road or sidewalk deficiencies (i.e. potholes). Immediate reporting of any inadequacy will assist City staff in locating deficiencies and performing repairs. Flood ControlPlease open catch basins or drains in front of properties during mild spells to assist with flood control. Report service issues to 3-1-1. Play it safe!Supervise your children and prevent them from digging dangerous tunnels or trenches that could collapse or be filled in by passing snow removal equipment. Teach your children safe practices of winter play. Please stay off the snow banks! |
