Plowing and Salting

Winter Parking - Winter overnight parking regulations are in effect from November 15 until April 1.

Ottawa's climate is changing, not only do we average 242 cm of snowfall during the winter but also we are experiencing more rain and freezing rain.

The temperature fluctuates greatly, with warm temperatures followed by freezing rain, followed by severe cold, all of which creates challenging winter conditions to combat. For information on Ottawa's climate please visit Environment Canada's Web site.

Over the winter months, the City of Ottawa clears snow and ice from our roadways, sidewalks, bridges, bus stops and Transitway. To keep our roadways and sidewalks clear of snow and ice City crews are required to apply de-icing materials, and to prioritize maintenance of roads and sidewalks based on their importance in the transportation network and to implement winter parking restrictions to allow for the clearing of snow and ice from Ottawa's streets.

Please report any road or sidewalk deficiencies such as potholes by calling 3-1-1. Immediate reporting of any inadequacy will assist City staff in locating deficiencies and perform repairs.
