On-Street Parking Meter

The City of Ottawa has approximately 3,500 on-street and 400 off-street parking meters. An information plate inside the meter dome gives you details about parking restrictions, time limits and the hours when parking is free. On-street, the dome colour and surrounding signs will give you additional information about time limits. Off-street, signs displaying rates and hours of operation are posted in every municipal lot. All parking meters accept 25¢, $1.00, $2.00 coins and the City of Ottawa Parking Card as methods of payment. Parking rates are 25¢ for 5 minutes at all on-street meters and may vary in metered lots.

Weekend parking
Free parking is available on weekends at City lots and meters located within the downtown core. This area is bounded by the Rideau Canal to Bronson Avenue and Wellington Street to Catherine Street. Please check parking signs as time restrictions may still apply.

Regulations
Parking at meters is for the specified interval - regardless of whether you return to insert more coins. You could be ticketed even if the meter is still running, if you have been tagged as over the time limit. You may be eligible for a Parking Infraction Notice (PIN) if you have parked at a:

  • defective meter
  • hooded meter
  • yellow metered space designated for a tour bus

To avoid committing a parking infraction, find an alternate parking space immediately.
