Old Ottawa East Community Design Plan

The Planning Division of the Infrastructure Services and Community Sustainability Department has launched the Old Ottawa East Community Design Plan (CDP) process.

This CDP is being undertaken in response to recent development proposals and a related request from the Old Ottawa East Community Association for more effective direction for growth in the area, and especially along the Main Street corridor.

Study Area

The study area will primarily focus on Main Street, which extends from the Smyth Road Bridge on the south to the intersection of Colonel By Drive on the north. The community of Old Ottawa East includes the area from the Rideau River on the east to the Rideau Canal on the west.

Study Goal

The goal of this planning process is to prepare a CDP focused on Main Street but consistent with a vision of the Old Ottawa East community as a whole. The plan will provide a broad and integrated twenty-year vision and guidance for the growth of the area.

Public Consultation

The planning process will be carried out in collaboration with the Old Ottawa East Community Association, the major institutions and businesses in the area, and with representation from Councillor Clive Doucet’s office.

Timing

The CDP is targeted for completion in December 2009.
