As a life-long resident of Beacon Hill-Cyrville, Tim Tierney's dedication to Ward 11 began years ago. Tim was first elected to Council in 2010, and since then has continued to support his community through many successful events, projects, and initiatives; such as, Celebrate Summer, neighbourhood BBQs, Vision Jasmine, and the Gloucester 50+ Club. He is especially proud of the new New Gloucester Emergency Food Cupboard and Richcraft Sensplex, and the expansion of both Pat Clark Community Centre and Beacon Hill North Community Centre.
Tim has been active in ensuring his community continues to grow and thrive as an integral part of Ottawa. His commitment to Beacon Hill-Cyrville includes many years of volunteering for a variety of local development projects, sports and recreational groups, schools, social services, and community organizations. Over the past 12 consecutive years that Tim has served on Council, he has served on the following Boards and Committees: Chair, Information Technology Sub-Committee; Community and Protective Services Committee; Ottawa Community Housing Board; Ottawa Public Library Board; Planning Committee; Transit Commission; and Transportation Committee. Vice-Chair, Ontario Caucus; Community Safety & Crime Prevention; Increasing Women’s Participation in Municipal Government; Municipal Finance & Intergovernmental Arrangements; and Municipal Infrastructure & Transportation Policy. Tim was also the City of Ottawa’s representative and board member of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).
During the 2014-2018 term of Ottawa City Council, Tim was a member of the following Boards and Committees: Chair, Ottawa Public Library Board; Vice-Chair, Planning Committee; Information Technology Sub-Committee; Ottawa Police Services Board; and Transit Commission.
During the 2018-2022 term of Ottawa City Council, Tim was a member of the following Boards and Committees: Chair, Transportation Committee; Chair, Ontario Caucus; Community and Protective Services Committee (CPSC); Finance and Economic Development Committee; Planning Committee; Transit Committee; Information Technology Sub-Committee; Committee on Conference Planning; and Municipal Finance & Intergovernmental Arrangements.
As Chair of Transportation, Tim has been an integral part of the Blair Road widening project, as well as the widening of Jasmine, and the new multi-use pathway (MUP) connectivity between stations near LRT stations, Cyrville, Blair and Montreal Road. Tim was re-elected on October 24th, 2022 as Councillor of Beacon Hill-Cyrville for another four great years. He will continue his role as the City of Ottawa’s representative and board member to FCM, and will bring his years of experience back to a number of committees.
With an education in Business Administration/Information Systems, Tim has a strong background in both business and technology which he continues to apply throughout his career. Tim is the son of Shirley Lavergne and the late Allan Tierney, and the husband of Jenny Tierney. He and his wife, Jenny, raised their three children, Crystal, Keely and Liam in Beacon Hill, where they continue to live and grow with their dog Princesse.
