Parliament of Canada: East Block

111 Wellington St.   Map (link is external)

Interior photo of the reproduction of Governor General Lord Dufferin's office, featuring a fireplace, red velvet curtains and furniture, desk, book shelves, and area rug.

Completed in 1865, East Block is a showpiece of Gothic Revival architecture. It is also the original home of Canada's executive branch: at the time of Confederation, the building housed the offices of Sir John A. Macdonald, Sir George-Étienne Cartier, the Governor General, and many others. Guided tours take visitors inside these historic rooms to learn more about the earliest years of Parliament. Visit 90 Wellington St for same-day tour tickets. Limited availability. Visit for information on security measures.
