In the 19th century there were many fine houses in Ontario, but few were graced with walled gardens, and fewer still have survived. The walled garden at Maplelawn is a rare example and is also exceptionally well preserved. About 125 species of plants, most of them perennials, are still thriving there. In 2018, the Friends of Maplelawn Garden are celebrating their 25th year as stewards of this National Historic Site in caring for this perennial garden.
