Job Summary

Conducts research, fieldwork, investigations and/or surveys, assemble background information, input information on computers.

Education & Experience

Post Secondary Student (completion of second year College or university).

Currently an undergraduate (minimum) in university or community college with at least 2 years successfully completed in Planning, Engineering, Social Sciences, Geographic Information Systems or related fields.

Minimum of four (4) months but less than eight (8) months of related experience is required:

Language, Certificates & Licenses

English oral, reading, writing required.
French oral, reading, writing may be required for some positions.
Candidates must meet language requirement for position upon hire.


Microsoft Windows environment and Word / Excel / Access / GIS

Familiarity with the City of Ottawa, its geography, people, housing and employment base

Knowledge of planning and development processes

Knowledge of both Official Languages is an asset

Competencies & Skills

To be able to readily use and understand various sources of information in map or tabular form (maps, assessment, directories, or other data sets)

To possess basic cartographic skills and air photo interpretation

To work well in a team environment with minimum supervision

To be able to use own judgment

To be tactful and courteous in dealings with the public

To exhibit excellent oral communication skills

To establish work priorities
