Job Summary

Incumbents in this job assist transit planning staff in making decisions about bus routes, bus stops and bus stop shelters, and perform general administrative support tasks relating to planning functions. Provides some functional guidance to Transit Planning Assistant when both positions are staffed.

Education & Experience

Post Secondary Student (completion of third year College or University and beyond):

Geography, GIS, urban planning, engineering, operations research, economics, or similar discipline

Minimum of eight (8) months but less than one (1) year of related experience is required:

Transit planning experience (4 months or more, within 8 months or more total relevant experience).

Office or engineering experience, with computer data entry/use experience.

Language, Certificates & Licenses

English oral, reading, writing required.
French oral, reading, writing may be required for some positions.
Candidates must meet language requirement for position upon hire.

A valid Ontario unrestricted "G" class driver’s license (or provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerit points accumulated.


Methods/procedures for locating and installing bus stops, bus shelters, and benches.

Familiarity with Ottawa and an interest in its transit system.

Issues and principles of transit service planning.

Competencies & Skills

Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)

Able to read engineering drawings

Able to write clear e-mail messages and memos

Able to prepare accurate sketches of bus stop sites

Special equipment or skills:

Ability to work both in the field and in the office
