Job Summary

Providing assistance and support in the administration of the Sewer Use Program that includes the Industrial Waste and the Hauled Waste sections. It involves the collection of water quality and other environmental samples from storm, sanitary and industrial discharges, and the installation and operation of monitoring equipment using established criteria and protocols.

Education & Experience

Post Secondary Student (completion of first year College or university): Environmental Science or Civil/Environmental Engineering Program.

Minimum of four (4) months but less than eight (8) months of related experience is required.

Language, Certificates & Licenses

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.

English oral, reading, writing required.
French oral, reading, writing may be required for some positions.
Candidates must meet language requirement for position upon hire.

Students must supply own CSA-approved, green patch safety work boots.


Knowledge of proper sampling procedures and protocols.

Competencies & Skills

Interpersonal communication skills for dealing with general public.

Operation of a small vehicle (car/van/pick-up) in the performance of duties.

Able to perform physical labour tasks in the performance of the duties such as opening manholes, traversing embankments, loading/unloading of equipment and deployment/retrieval of sampling equipment from sewer locations.

Proficient with MS Word and Excel.
