How can I reach the City by e-mail?

Over the past few years, some individuals and companies have abused e-mail networks in many organizations by using electronic Web crawlers to collect published e-mail addresses, send junk mail (spamming) or transmit computer viruses. Such abuses can seriously compromise an organization’s information system and communications environment.

To prevent e-mail abuse, the City has adopted standard Internet practices that are used by many large organizations. As a result, the City of Ottawa offers convenient e-mail forms from the employee directory and organizational charts on ottawa.ca rather than publishing e-mail addresses.

How our Contact Web forms work?

When you click on a link to one of our staff members through the employee directory or organizational chart, a JavaScript command launches a simple mail form. If you have any problems launching this form, please ensure your browser security options are not prohibiting the use of JavaScript on your browser. If you do not wish to allow JavaScript, you have the option to contact us by telephone instead.

If I use a Web form, how can I keep a record of my e-mail?

After you send the e-mail form, a pop-up window will appear to notify you that your e-mail was sent successfully. You will find a copy of your message, along with the contact information that you provided, at the bottom of this window. You may then highlight and copy it to a document on your desktop if you wish.

What if I want to attach a document?

Documents cannot be attached within e-mail forms. In order to send an attachment, you must first use the e-mail form to send a message to the chosen recipient. When the recipient responds by e-mail, you can then reply to that e-mail address along with an attached document. Please ask whether the recipient would like to receive the attachment. Files that are too large may not be able to be transmitted through our e-mail system.

What if I want to save a City of Ottawa e-mail address so I can use it again later rather than having to return to the Web site?

After you send the Web form, we will ensure that the appropriate person responds to your inquiry by e-mail. You may then save that e-mail address for future contact purposes.

We are continually working to improve the ease with which visitors to ottawa.ca can contact the City of Ottawa online while protecting City information and communication technology infrastructure.

We welcome your feedback.
