Transformations: 24 artists, 13 stations, 12.5 km

September 14, 2019 to January 5, 2020.

Public art exists in many forms and locations – from public facilities to streetscapes and pedestrian pathways. Art and transit create a dialogue through an exchange between the artist’s imagination and the public’s engagement.

The City of Ottawa Public Art Program commissions site-specific art through a one percent funding allocation from new municipal development projects. As part of this Program, the O-Train Public Art Program launched in 2012 with a series of calls to artists, including separate opportunities for Algonquin Anishinabe artists for Pimisi Station. Twenty-four artists were peer-selected to create artwork for 13 stations along 12.5 km.

The permanent artworks installed along the O-Train Confederation Line Stage 1 are a result of the artists’ multi-year creative processes and partnerships with community members, O-Train design team members and cultural collaborators.
