January 8 to 26, 2018
The City of Ottawa is proposing to construct a new section of sidewalk on the west side of Cummings Avenue from the Cyrville Road intersection to 120 metres north of Cyrville Road, terminating north of the driveway entrance to Caisse Populaire Trillium. This new section of sidewalk will be approximately 100 metres long.
This project is a Phase 1 project from the Council-approved 2013 Ottawa Pedestrian Plan. The provision of a sidewalk on Cummings Avenue is a policy requirement and aligns with the City’s transportation goals and objectives to maximize walkability. As an arterial road, policy requires a sidewalk on both sides of Cummings Avenue. There is an existing sidewalk on the east side.
This project will complete a missing link in the pedestrian network providing improved connectivity to public transit (such as Cyrville Station). The proposed sidewalk will end at the property line of 1173 Cyrville Road (Caisse Populaire Trillium). The property to the north at 1178 Cummings Avenue is currently undeveloped and a sidewalk will be implemented when development occurs. Eventually providing a complete sidewalk on the west side of Cummings Avenue will provide an uninterrupted facility for pedestrians.
The new sidewalk will be located within the City’s right-of-way. It will connect the existing concrete sidewalk at the northwest corner of the intersection to the existing paved shoulder along the west side of Cummings Avenue. Landscaping and other features within the right-of-way may be impacted.
The project is currently in the planning stage, which will be followed by design. Construction is expected to start in late 2018 or 2019.
The drawing below shows the location of the proposed sidewalk.
