Project Overview
The City of Ottawa is undertaking the detailed design and construction of Albert and Slater Streets (core sector between Bay and Elgin Streets), as an opportunity to repurpose this corridor following the launch and on-going operation of the Confederation Line Light Rail Transit (LRT). With the removal of rapid bus transit from these streets, the opportunity exists to improve these corridors for other users and implement elements of “Complete Streets” including the addition of cycling facilities.
This project also includes the replacement of sections of watermain that have reached the end of its life cycle along Albert and Slater Streets as well as the replacement of the sanitary sewer on Metcalfe Street.

Overview of Downtown Moves Study
Background
This project aims to implement the vision from the Downtown Moves: Transforming Ottawa’s Streets study which was approved by Council on March 27, 2013.
Downtown Moves is an Urban Design and Transportation Study that identifies ways to create more vibrant, inclusive, safe and accessible streets for residents, workers and visitors of all ages and abilities across Ottawa's Central Business District (CBD). The overall aim is to make walking, cycling and transit use more comfortable and convenient by redistributing and improving the streetscape environment. The study informs the City on how to best capitalize on the transformative opportunities presented by the implementation of the Confederation Line light rail transit (LRT) project, and seamlessly integrate the future stations at street level.

Why: With reduced bus traffic on Albert and Slater Streets, the opportunity exists to improve these corridors for other users.
What: The design implements elements of “Complete Streets” along these roadways including the addition of cycling facilities.
The project also includes the replacement of sections of watermain that have reached the end of its life cycle along Albert and Slater Streets as well as the replacement of the sanitary sewer on Metcalfe Street.
When: Construction activities will tentatively commence in 2020.
Where: This project will take place on the following streets:
- Albert Street (from Elgin Street to Bay Street)
- Slater Street (from Bay Street to Elgin Street)
- Metcalfe Street (Laurier Avenue to Slater Street)
At the public open house, residents are able to drop in during the hours noted above and review the design plans for the project. Representatives from the City, the design consultant and the Ward Councillor’s office will be available to discuss the project and to answer your questions. Consultations for the sections of Albert and Slater Streets west of Bay Street and East of Elgin Street will be done at a later date as part of two separate projects.
