At the second open house meeting on 9 June 2015 staff presented a recommended plan for Forest Valley Drive along with an alternative plan. These plans can be found in the Open House #2 display boards. The recommended plan featured a number of roadway narrowings along Forest Valley Drive, as well as four speed humps on the segment south of Meadowglen Drive. The plan also included a new crosswalk at Rivermill Crescent (N). Based on the feedback we received at the meeting, the recommended plan was carried forward.
A report reflecting this result was then drafted and sent to the Ward Councillor for review. The Councillor had, in the time since the public meeting, received additional comments from residents living on the section of Forest Valley Drive between Meadowglen Drive and St. Joseph Boulevard requesting that speed humps be installed on their street instead of the roadway narrowings originally proposed. As the result of a request from the Councillor, staff consulted area residents to gauge public interest in the implementation of flat-top speed humps instead of roadway narrowings.
A flyer was distributed to area residents to gauge public opinion. A sketch of the original staff recommended plan was included, along with the alternative scenario that included speed humps along the length of Forest Valley. Residents were asked to review the two plans and to submit their comments to staff.
Feedback Results
Resident feedback was collected and reviewed by City staff and the Councillor's office. The comments received were also summarized to facilitate discussions.
Next, the Councillor's office will meet with the Chapel Hill North Community Association. Based on those discussions, the results from the public consultation, and input from City staff, a decision will be made on how to proceed with the Forest Valley Drive Area Traffic Management Study.
