The City prepares to gradually reopen its cultural facilities starting this week

September 16, 2020
Announcements and Events

The City is gradually reopening its cultural facilities this week, with the initial offering of room rentals at the following locations:

  • Arts Court
  • Nepean Creative Arts Centre
  • Nepean Visual Arts Centre
  • Meridian Theatres@Centrepointe
  • Shenkman Arts Centre

City Museums and Historic sites opened in August and most City-run galleries will open through the month ahead.

To safeguard residents and staff, all COVID-19 measures and protocols will be in place – including hand washing, masking requirements, physical distancing and capacity restrictions. Rentals of performance spaces for classes or presentations will require the host to conduct wellness self-assessments and register all participant information for contact tracing.

In addition, the resumption of all other COVID-modified instructional programming and performing arts will be done in a slow, gradual and cautious manner over the next few weeks:

  • September 24 – Trinity Art Gallery at Shenkman Arts Centre will open a new exhibit.
  • October 13 – Courses – virtual and in-person – begin at Nepean Creative Centre, Nepean Visual Arts Centre and Shenkman Arts Centre.
  • October – Performances begin at Meridian Theatres @Centrepointe and Shenkman Arts Centre, with limited audience capacity. More information on shows, dates and COVID-related measures will be announced soon.

Both theatres will be lit up in red on September 22 to mark the Day of Visibility – recognizing the pandemic’s impact on live entertainment.
