Committee approves deferral program for water utility bills

Council Updates

Ottawa – The Environment and Climate Protection Committee today recommended City Council approve a new deferral program for water utility bills. Low-income seniors and persons with disabilities who own their residence would be able to defer their water utility bills.

The requirements of the program would mirror those of the City’s deferral program for property taxes, which has been in place since 2007. The City estimates it would defer $115,500 in water utility bills each year.

The Committee directed staff to investigate what would be required for the City to become a Bee City that fosters pollinator-friendly spaces. Staff will report back to the Committee in early 2019.

Items from today’s Environment and Climate Protection Committee meeting requiring City Council approval will go to Council on Wednesday, September 26.
