Holiday season schedule changes

The City of Ottawa reminds residents of the following schedule changes for the holiday season, between Tuesday, December 24 and Thursday, January 2.

Client services

  • Ottawa City Hall and all seven client service centres, including the Government Service Centre located at 110 Laurier Avenue West, will close on Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26 and Wednesday, January 1.
  • The City’s Provincial Offences Court, including the courts located at 100 Constellation Crescent, will be closed on Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26 and Wednesday, January 1.
  • Rural client service centres (Metcalfe, West Carleton and North Gower) will be open between 8:30 am and noon from Tuesday, December 17 to Thursday, December 19. They will be closed from Wednesday, December 25 to Friday, January 3. The centres normally operate three days a week and regular business will resume on Monday, January 6.
  • The City’s 3-1-1 Contact Centre will be open for urgent matters requiring the City’s immediate attention. Call 3-1-1 or 613-580-2400 (TTY: 613-580-2401) to speak to a client service representative.

Green bin, recycling and garbage collection

  • There will be no curbside or multi-residential green bin, recycling, garbage or bulky item collection on Wednesday, December 25. Collection scheduled for Wednesday, December 25 will take place on Thursday, December 26 and all collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. Collection on Wednesday, January 1 will take place on Thursday, January 2 and all collection will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week.
  • The Trail Waste Facility will be closed on Wednesday, December 25 and Wednesday, January 1.
  • Christmas trees will be picked up on your regular garbage day. Please remove all decorations. Christmas trees in plastic bags or frozen into a snow bank will not be collected.

Parking

  • Free parking will be available at City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West, from Tuesday, December 24 at 6 pm until Friday, December 27 at 6 am, and from Tuesday, December 31 at 6 pm until Thursday, January 2 at 6 am. Free parking at City Hall is also available on evenings and weekends.
  • The ByWard Market Garage at 70 Clarence Street and the Dalhousie Garage at 141 Clarence Street will offer free parking from Tuesday, December 24 at 5 pm until Thursday, December 26 at 7 am, and from Tuesday, December 31 at 5 pm until Thursday, January 2 at 7 am.
  • All other City of Ottawa parking regulations and restrictions will apply.

Transit service

  • OC Transpo bus and rail service will operate on a reduced schedule from Monday, December 23 through Friday, December 27 and from Monday, December 30 through Friday, January 3.
  • School trips will not operate between Monday, December 23 and Friday, January 3.
  • Timetables are available at octranspo.com. Call 613-560-1000 or text 560560 plus your four-digit bus stop number for real-time schedule information or use the OC Transpo app.
  • STO users can plan their trip using Plani-bus.
  • A group of up to six people, with a maximum of two people who are 13 years or older, may travel all day with a Family Pass on Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26, and Wednesday, January 1. Passes can be purchased for $10.75 on the bus or at ticket machines at O-Train Line 1 or Line 2 stations.
  • OC Transpo Customer Service (613-741-4390) will be open throughout the holidays to help customers with schedules and trip planning:
    • Tuesday, December 24, 7 am t 9 pm
    • Wednesday, December 25, 9 am t 5 pm
    • Thursday, December 26, 7 am t 9 pm
    • Tuesday, December 31, 7 am t 9 pm
    • Wednesday, January 1, 9 am t 5 pm
  • The Rideau Centre OC Transpo Customer Service Centre will be closed on Wednesday, December 25 and Wednesday, January 1. It will open on Thursday, December 26 from 8 am to 8 pm. Customer Service Centres at Lincoln Fields, Place d’Orléans and St-Laurent stations will be closed on Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26, and Wednesday, January 1.
  • Para Transpo will operate a holiday service on Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26, and Wednesday, January 1. Regularly scheduled trips on these days will be automatically cancelled, but customers may book trips for these days by calling 613-244‑7272 on or after:
    • Wednesday, December 18, fr Christmas Day bookings
    • Thursday, December 19, fr Boxing Day bookings
    • Wednesday, December 25, fr New Year’s Day bookings

Customers are reminded to suspend any other regular bookings if they will be on vacation during the holiday season.

  • Para Transpo:
    • The taxi cupons line (613-842-3670) will be closed on Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26 and Wednesday, January 1.
    • The reservatins line (613-244-7272) will be open for regular hours.
    • The trip cancellatin and general inquiries line (613-244-4636) will be open from 6 am to midnight.

Recreation services

  • Pools, arenas and fitness centres will be operating on modified schedules during the holiday season, including public swimming, fitness and public skating facilities. Please check ottawa.ca for schedules.
  • Some holiday-themed registered programs will be offered at community centres, arenas and swimming pools. Browse JoinOttawa or check with your facility to register.
  • Holiday schedules for refrigerated outdoor rinks, such as the Sens Rink of Dreams, Lansdowne Park skating court, Ben Franklin Place skating rink and Jim Tubman Chevrolet Sens Rink can be found at ottawa.ca/skating. Check the alert status on the homepage of ottawa.ca to confirm that the rink is open.
  • The Hunt Club-Riverside Park Community Centre will be closed from Monday, December 23 to Wednesday, January 1 for renovations.

Ottawa Public Health

  • The Sexual Health Clinic and satellite clinics will be closed on Thursday, December 26 and Wednesday, January 1.
  • The Site Program at 179 Clarence Street, including supervised consumption services, will operate on a regular schedule, daily from 9 am to 9 pm.
  • The Site Program mobile van will operate on a regular schedule, daily from 5 pm to 11:30 pm.
  • Please refer to Ottawa Public Health’s website for hours of operation for the Parenting in Ottawa Drop-ins. These drop-Ins are not held on statutory holidays.
  • Dental clinics will be closed on Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26 and Wednesday, January 1.
  • The Ottawa Public Health Information Centre will be closed on Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26 and Wednesday, January 1. Staff will respond to phone messages and inquiries within one business day. Find the latest health information at OttawaPublicHealth.ca.

Cultural services

Archives services

  • The City of Ottawa Archives Reference Services and Gallery 112 will be closed from Saturday, December 21 and will reopen on Thursday, January 2.

Municipal child-care services

  • All Municipal child-care centres will be closed on Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26 and Wednesday, January 1.
  • Parents are advised to check operating hours with their childcare centres during the holiday season.

Library services

  • Ottawa Public Library will be closed on Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26 and Wednesday, January 1. Branches and services will operate on a regular schedule from Friday, December 27 through Monday, December 30. On Tuesday, December 24 and Tuesday, December 31, branches that normally close at 5 pm will close early, at 3 pm. Branches that normally close before 3 pm will maintain regular hours.
