– The Province of Ontario has allowed some City outdoor recreation amenities to reopen with restrictions on Saturday, May 22, ahead of step one of the provincial reopening road map. Outdoor social gatherings are restricted to five people – including members of another household.

The amenities that can reopen include:

  • Tennis and pickleball courts
  • Skate parks
  • Basketball courts – shooting hoops only
  • Sports fields
  • Splash pads

Tennis and pickleball nets will be installed over the next week. Team or group sports, scrimmages and practices are not allowed at this time. Ottawa Public Health encourages everyone maintain proper physical distancing, wear masks when physical distancing is difficult, and try and keep activities limited to people within your household.

The City’s park ambassadors will be touring parks to help provide guidance and answer any questions regarding public health guidelines and safety protocols.

As well, the washrooms at three of the City’s beaches, Mooney’s Bay, Petrie and Britannia, will open for the season on Saturday, May 22. Please note that beaches remain closed under provincial regulations and they are not supervised. Lifeguards will not present until provincial regulations allow beaches to open. Water quality tests are not yet being carried out. Residents are reminded that swimming is not advised at this time.

Boat launches opening this week

Boat launches are also reopening on May 22 and seasonal docks in parks will be installed over the next week. People are reminded launching watercrafts – such as boats, canoes and kayaks - from beaches is never permitted.
