Transit Commission receives OC Transpo’s 2019 Draft Budget
The Transit Commission today received the proposed 2019 Draft Budget for OC Transpo. The draft budget includes proposed investments in bus service expansion and new additions to the bus fleet to accommodate that expansion. The 2019 draft budget will be considered by the Transit Commission on February 20 and then by City Council on March 6.
The draft budget includes $5.1M per year in additional funding for investments in expanded transit service in communities across the city. The proposed transit service enhancements would be introduced following the opening of the Confederation Line.
The proposed service expansion builds on the service adjustments that were approved in the 2016 budget and implemented in late 2017. The proposed enhanced service will provide new travel options such as new and faster connections, shorter waiting times, and more capacity for transit users.
The 2019 Draft Budget also recommends freezing fares until July 1, 2019, at which point a proposed 2.5 percent increase to transit fares would take effect. It is also proposed that in addition to Wednesdays, seniors 65 and over also travel for free on Sundays, beginning on July 1, 2019.
