Each year, during the first weekend of June, dozens of people volunteer to help make Doors Open Ottawa an enjoyable experience for more than 80,000 visitors citywide. You might even say that volunteers are key to Doors Open Ottawa.
Volunteers like Richard Beck.
“I volunteer for Doors Open Ottawa because I enjoy the smiles and conversation it draws out of people,” Richard says.
It’s difficult to predict what kind of fond memories lie in store for you when you volunteer.
“My Mom is Croatian so I volunteered one year at the Croatian embassy,” Richard recalls. “That just happened to be the year they won the World Cup of soccer. That was a lot of fun.”
If you’re not sure if volunteering for Doors Open is for you, Richard reminds you that the shifts are short and the event only happens two days every year.
“And, if you want to visit some of the other buildings, there is a good chance you will hear some highlights about other buildings that will help you decide which buildings you want to attend as a visitor.”
This year’s event takes place Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2.
If you’re 14 years of age and older, and you enjoy working with the public, we invite you to apply today to volunteer with Doors Open Ottawa. Interested candidates are needed to:
