The City of Ottawa is undertaking major infrastructure renewal to prepare for Confederation Line construction. All this work makes getting around the city during rush hour a challenge. To help you plan your commute, here’s a breakdown of projects by neighbourhood, as well as some options to help you get around.
From Downtown/Gatineau
Traffic Impacts: Main St. Lane Reductions (until Feb. 2015), Rideau St. Development Project (until 2016), Queen St. Lane Reductions (until 2015), Reduction to one lane eastbound on Daly Ave. (Jan. 2015 - Nov. 2017), Preston Extension and Booth Street Closure (until Dec. 2016)
- Three buses run every minute along the Transitway and on Albert and Slater Streets. Frequent buses on Rideau, Elgin, Bank, Preston Streets and Bronson Ave.
- The City is expanding O-Train service and will offer 8 min. intervals between trains soon!
- Capacity to carry 1,300 more customers between Ottawa and Gatineau in morning and afternoon peak periods.
- Route 95: 13 min. from Lebreton station to Mackenzie King Station at the Rideau Centre.
- Route 95: 12 min. from Hurdman station to Albert/Metcalfe.

From Orléans
Traffic Impacts: Highway 417 Widening (until June 2015), Belfast/Tremblay LRT Construction (until May 2016), Trim Road Widening (until Nov. 2015)
- Frequent rapid transit on the Transitway on Route 94 from Millennium station and Route 95 from Place d’Orléans station.
- Route 95: 31 min. from Trim Park & Ride via Place d’Orléans Station, Orléans Park & Ride, and Jeanne d’Arc station to Mackenzie King Station.
- Plenty of room on the bus this winter! Capacity to carry 2,900 more customers on all east-end express and Transitway Route in morning and afternoon peak periods.
- Express Routes 20, 21, 22, 24, 30, 31, 34, 35, 37, 38 run during morning peak periods from Orléans to downtown. These Routes typically get there faster than the 94, 95, 96, which have more stops.
- Space most days at Park & Rides at Blair (on Telesat - gold permit required), Jeanne d’Arc (at Bob McQuarrie Recreational Centre - permit required), Trim, Millennium and Ray Friel (permit required). Limited space available at Place d’Orléans Park & Ride.

From Nepean, Barrhaven and Riverside South
Traffic Impacts: Greenbank Widening (until Oct. 2016)
- Taking the bus downtown from Barrhaven and Riverside South at peak hours normally takes no longer than driving. Service every 4-10 minutes on Transitway Routes 94, 95 & 99.
- There is lots of room and the bus is warm. Capacity to carry 2,400 more customers on all south-end express and Transitway Routes in peak periods.
- Route 95: 34 min. from Fallowfield Park & Ride, 41 min. from Strandherd Park & Ride to downtown. Route 94: 44 minutes from Nepean Woods Park & Ride and 51 min. from Riverview Park & Ride to downtown.
- Express Routes 70, 71, 72, 73, 77 run during morning peak periods from Barrhaven to downtown. These Routes are ideal and typically get there faster than the 94, 95, 99, which have more stops.
- Often lots of room at Nepean Woods, Riverview, Fallowfield (gold permit option) and Leitrim Park and Rides. Space may be available at Greenboro, Baseline (permit required before 11am) and Strandherd Park & Rides.

From Kanata/Stittsville
- If you don’t love driving in the winter, take OC Transpo! Capacity to carry 1,600 more customers on all west-end express and Transitway Routes in peak periods.
- Route 96: 38 min. from Main/Abbott or 47 min. from Terry Fox Park & Ride or 60 min. from Canadian Tire Centre Park & Ride to Albert/Metcalfe.
- Express Routes 61, 62, 64, 65, 66, 68 provide direct, quick trips during morning peak periods from Kanata to downtown and back during afternoon peak periods with stops on request at Tunney’s Pasture.
- Generally plenty of space at Canadian Tire Centre and Carp Road Park & Rides. Space may be available at Terry Fox and Eagleson (gold permit option) Park & Rides.
