Night work - McArthur Avenue (September 19-20, 2023)

As part of the City of Ottawa’s annual infrastructure maintenance cycle, road resurfacing continues along McArthur Avenue.

What:    Work will involve milling or pulverizing of the existing surface, possible granular material placement, adjustment of maintenance hole and catch basin grates, concrete repairs, and roadway resurfacing. Increased noise levels to be expected in order to facilitate the work.

Why: The City of Ottawa will be resurfacing roads as preventative maintenance aimed at extending the City's roadway network lifecycle.

When: This work started in July and completion is anticipated by fall 2023.

Nighttime construction is expected to occur on Tuesday, September 19 and Wednesday September 20, between 6pm and 6am.

The road will remain open to traffic with lane closures expected. Traffic control personnel will direct traffic through the site.

Where: The following roadway will be resurfaced during the day and night and will involve lane interruptions:

  • McArthur Avenue from Lafontaine Avenue to St. Laurent Boulevard

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the contractor, R.W. Tomlinson, to complete the work.

On-street parking

As the various road reconstruction activities are in progress on your street, on-street parking will be restricted. In the event that access to your driveway is restricted due to construction activities, a Temporary On-Street Parking Permit (orange form) will be distributed to permit on-street parking within two blocks of your residence.

Traffic management

To accommodate the proposed construction, various lane reductions, alternating traffic and/or detours can be expected. Access to local businesses and private properties will be maintained throughout the construction period. Access for pedestrians and cyclists will maintained.

Construction disruptions

The contractor will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the normal life of your family and/or operation of your business, but as you can appreciate, there may be some inconvenience during construction. 2023 East Urban #4 asphaltic overlay - Hunt Club Road

As part of the City of Ottawa’s annual infrastructure maintenance cycle, road resurfacing will occur along Hunt Club Road.

What: Work will involve milling or pulverizing of the existing surface, possible granular material placement, adjustment of maintenance hole and catch basin grates, concrete repairs, and roadway resurfacing. Increased noise levels to be expected in order to facilitate the work.

Why: The City of Ottawa will be resurfacing roads as preventative maintenance aimed at extending the City's roadway network lifecycle.

When: This work is expected to start the week of September 18 and completion is anticipated by spring 2024.

The road will remain open to traffic with lane closures expected. Traffic control personnel will direct traffic through the site.

Where: The following roadway will be resurfaced during the day and night and will involve lane interruptions:

  • Hunt Club Road from Conroy Road to Hawthorne Road

Weekend work is anticipated and traffic interruptions may be experienced due to flagging operations.

Pipe repairs - Saunderson Drive (nightly road closure and bus detour)

The City of Ottawa is replacing the aging underground sewer on Saunderson Drive as part of the City’s ongoing replacement of critical infrastructure.

To facilitate construction, Saunderson Drive from Elsett Drive to Pleasant Park Road will be closed overnight from 8 pm to 6 am starting Monday, September 18 until Saturday, September 23, 2023. To maintain bus services in your community, OC Transpo route 49 will be detoured.

What: Bus route 49 will be detoured via Arch Street,a Canterbury Avenue, Halifax Drive, Walkley Road and St-Laurent Boulevard. 

Why: The City of Ottawa will be undertaking these repairs as part of a programmed end-of-service-life replacement project.

When: The detour is expected nightly from 8 pm to 6 am starting Monday, September 18, until Saturday, September 23, 2023.

Where: Detour routing: Route 49 via Arch Street, Canterbury Avenue, Halifax Drive, Walkley Road and St-Laurent Boulevard

Road closure

To facilitate construction activities, Pleasant Park and Sanderson Drive intersection will be closed to through traffic including all vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. Road closure signage will be placed onsite. Local access to your property will be maintained throughout construction.

2023 East Rural 1 Resurfacing: Albion Road & Hawthorne Road

As part of the City of Ottawa’s annual infrastructure maintenance cycle, road resurfacing will occur along Albion Road and Hawthorne Road. The work is being undertaken to improve these roadways and the overall citywide transportation network. 

The road work is scheduled to occur at night when traffic volumes are low.  

What: Work will involve milling the existing surface, resurfacing of the roadway, and granular shoulder reinstatement as required. Increased noise levels and vibrations to be expected in order to facilitate the work.

Why: The City of Ottawa will be resurfacing Albion Road and sections of Hawthorne Road as preventative maintenance aimed at extending the City's roadway network lifecycle.  

When & where:

  • Albion Road, from 80m north of Tullamore Street to 55m south of Killymoon Way. This work is expected to start on September 4 and completion is expected by September 10, 2023.
  • Hawthorne Road from Rideau Road to 250m north of Rideau Road. This work is expected to start mid-September and completion is expected by the end of September 2023.  

Work will take place between the hours of 7 pm and 7 am as required. The roads will remain open to traffic with lane closures expected.  

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the contractor, Green Infrastructure Partners Inc. (GIP), to complete the work.

Impact on the right of way and adjacent private properties

The reconstruction is within the City’s right of way but may result in some disruption to part of the property directly adjacent to the work. The City will reinstate all sections of landscaping, driveways and walkways that are disturbed by construction.

2023 Crack Sealing Program: Princess Louise Drive & Hemlock Road

In September 2023, the City of Ottawa will commence crack sealing within your neighbourhood to increase the roadway longevity.  

What: The work will include sealing longitudinal and lateral cracks within the roadway using a heated bituminous material. 

Why: Crack sealing is a preventative maintenance measure aimed at extending the service life of roadways, by stopping the downward migration of water into the granular and subgrade materials by filling the cracks in asphalt pavement.

When & where: 

  • Princess Louise Drive from Charlemagne Boulevard to Charlemagne Boulevard: construction is expected to begin September 4, 2023
  • Hemlock Road from 92 metres north of Oakhill Road to St. Laurent Boulevard: construction is expected to begin September 11, 2023

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the contractor, Roadlast Asphalt Sealing and Maintenance Inc., to complete the work.

Traffic impacts

During construction intermittent lane reductions may be required. Signage and traffic control personnel will flag traffic through the site. Pedestrian detours will be signed at times when it is necessary to close sidewalks. For impacts to the regular bus schedule please visit octranspo.com.

Construction disruptions

Roadlast Asphalt and Sealing Maintenance Inc. will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the everyday life of your family and/or operation of your business but, as you can appreciate, there may be some inconvenience during the course of the work, such as delays when travelling around the construction zone, noise and dust. You may also feel vibrations due to heavy equipment operations. Vibrations from construction activities are quite common and rarely cause any problems.
