As you are aware, construction of the new Rideau Canal Crossing pedestrian and cycling bridge is well underway. The project requires an existing water main under the Canal to be capped and abandoned.
Who: The City of Ottawa has hired Pomerleau Inc., as the General Contractor who will complete the work.
Why: The City of Ottawa is constructing a new cycling/pedestrian bridge across the Rideau Canal between 5th Avenue and Clegg Street.
What: The capping of the existing water main will require an excavation near the intersection of 4th Avenue and Queen Elizabeth Drive. As such access to Queen Elizabeth Drive will be closed to traffic during this work. 4th Avenue between Queen Elizabeth Drive and O’Conner Street will be designated for local traffic only. The City Drinking Water Services will advise you if there is to be any disruption of water service.
When: The road closure will begin at 7 a.m. on November 21. The work is scheduled as a one-day event, with access being estimated to be restored by 5 p.m. Please note, if unforeseen delays occur, an additional day may be required to complete the works, resulting in a prolonged roadway closure to 5 p.m. on November 22.
Where: 4th Avenue between O’Conner and Queen Elizabeth Drive.
Accessibility is an important consideration for the City of Ottawa. If you require special accommodation, please contact the Site Inspector or the Contractor’s Representative.
On-street parking & traffic
There will be local vehicle traffic only on 4th Avenue during the road closure and no access to Queen Elizabeth Drive.
