Right of Entry (By-law No. 2005-326)

Right of Entry By-law (By-law No. 2005-326) is a by-law authorizing entry upon adjoining lands for the purpose of making repairs or alterations to buildings, fences or other structures.

Highlights:

  • In order to gain authorization, a permit must be obtained.

  • Applications for permits must include identifying the work to be covered by the permit in detail, description of the land on which the work will take place, providing the names and contact information for the contractor performing the work, the address of the adjoining land and written authorization from the owner of the land (if applicant does not own land).

  • To apply for a Right of Entry Permit, call 3-1-1. A By-law officer will be assigned to inspect the property with you, and complete the necessary forms on your behalf.

  • The fee for a Right of Entry Permit is $250.00. An additional refundable deposit of at least $500 will be required. This deposit will be returned once the property is restored to the satisfaction of the City.
