Description
In Scotton Hall, a painted mural with quilted textile hangings creates the illusion of a window into the local neighbourhood, where a large tree shelters the homes through the seasons of the year. In the Lower Hall, the tree roots extend into a whimsical painted and ceramic view of the neighbourhood underground. The connecting piece between these two installations is in the Lobby stairwell where a collection of papier mâché dolls symbolizes the people of the neighbourhood. These interwoven community images reflect the way in which the Centre strengthens family and community bonds. Glebe artists Marie-Christine Féraud, Carolynne Pynn-Trudeau and Mary Pal share the success of the Glebe Community Centre’s public art project with local residents. Children and adults from the Glebe created and donated elements for the three installations in artist-run workshops.
