Description
In mythology, the phoenix is a long-lived bird that perpetually cycles through birth and death. It was acquired by the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton and later transferred to the City of Ottawa. Its creator, Almuth Lütkenhaus-Lackey, studied art at schools in Dortmund and Münster in Germany. She lived in Germany until 1966, when she moved to Canada. A retrospective of her sculptural work was held at the National Arts Centre in 1974. Lütkenhaus-Lackey died in 1996.
