Description

Four wood figures connect the street to the fire hall. The figures are motionless, perhaps taking a break or waiting. As the day goes on, these figures evolve into street characters; at dusk and by night, the figures take on the profiles of other passersby.

The wood—marine-grade laminated mahogany plywood—has a tactile quality that gives warmth and depth to each figure. Sculptor Richard Nigro created surface features using a router. Heavier routing on the outside edges of the figures exposes laminations between the layers of mahogany.
