The summer may be slowly drawing to a close, but there is still lots of fun to be had with free community events at Lansdowne Park and City Hall this August. Participate in some family-friendly movie nights, try out salsa dancing, test your flexibility with Full Moon Yoga, or relax to the sound of music with the Lansdowne Summer Arts Showcase.

Salsa at City Hall

Join us at the Rink of Dreams at City Hall on Wednesday evenings in August for free nights of dance, community and fun. The night starts at 6:30 pm with two introductory back-to-back workshops (salsa and another Latin style). From 8 to 11 pm there will be social dancing to Ottawa’s best Latin DJs. Classes are offered by various Latin dance studios from across the Ottawa region.

Movies in the Park

Movies in the park are back! Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy free family-friendly movies on Thursday evenings until August 31 at Lansdowne Park. Movies start at sundown.

Our August movie roster includes:

  • Thursday, August 3: The Super Mario Bros. Movie
  • Thursday, August 10: A Knight’s Tale
  • Thursday, August 17: Coda: Life with Music
  • Thursday, August 24: The Mummy
  • Thursday, August 31: Jurassic World

Latin at Lansdowne

Not only are we offering Salsa at City Hall, we are also offering Latin at Lansdowne! These free outdoor classes will take place every Saturday in August at the Aberdeen Plaza. Beginner or Improver level dance lessons will begin at 6 pm, and social dancing will be between 8 and 11 pm. The workshops will be provided in both solo and partnered dance styles like salsa, bachata, kizomba and zouk, and you do not need to bring a partner. Participants will benefit from the workshops if they are an absolute beginner or if they have some dance experience already.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to experience the passion, energy, and vibrant atmosphere of Latin dance. This program is proudly offered by United Dance Ottawa.

Full Moon Yoga on the Great Lawn

The City of Ottawa and its yoga partners are happy to announce another season of free Full Moon Yoga at Lansdowne!

These wonderful moonlit classes are open to all levels, so join us, de-stress, and improve your flexibility and strength. It’s a perfect way to relax and to find some peace in your busy life.

There are two classes being offered in August: one on Tuesday, August 1 from 8:30 to 9:30 pm and another on Wednesday, August 30 from 8 to 9 pm. Both classes are presented by Yogatown.
