Two local children, Mariam and Drake, were recognized for their bravery and quick action at today’s City Council meeting through the 9-1-1 Children’s Achievement Awards. Mayor Mark Sutcliffe together with Councillor Riley Brockington, Chair, Emergency Preparedness and Protective Services Committee, presented both children with awards for their courage.
The award, held in partnership with Bell, recognizes youth ages 12 and under who effectively used 9-1-1 in a crisis and helped others.
The City continues to educate residents of all ages on how and when to use the 9-1-1 service. The service should only be used for emergency situations. Misuse of the 9-1-1 system or accidental calls can result in delays in responding to real emergencies.
