Description

Over the course of a year, Anna Williams collected bird nests from the thickets along Ottawa’s waterways during her ritual morning walk. She cast each nest in lead, sourced from the torn-out ironwork salvaged from the renovations of Parliament Hill. Her artistic process is an act of preservation of the fragility of a tiny sanctuary, and an exploration of the weighted concept of home and domesticity. Williams aims to examine the construction and manipulation of identity in contemporary society. Her artwork explores a link between human beings and the natural world in search of our most potent selves. Williams has been featured in solo exhibitions in Canada and the U.S. and her sculptures have been acquired by the Bank of Canada, Canada Council Art Bank, City of Ottawa, and the Femme Art Fund, as well as numerous national and international private collections.
