Description
A cyborg, short for "cybernetic organism", is a being with both organic and biomechatronic body parts. This term was introduced in 1960 by Manfred Clynes (1925-) and Nathan S. Kline (1916-1983). In Laurence Finet’s Sans Algorithme series she is fascinated with our interconnection to medical imaging technology such as X-ray, CT and MRI scans. Her approach to painting is an exploration with how technology is turning into a part of us, and conversely, how we are becoming technology, as it is changing our minds and bodies. Her explorations delve into the ideas of cyborg sensuality and how to uncover fragments of what makes us human. Laurence Finet was born in Mons, Belgium. She graduated with a Fine Arts Diploma from the Ottawa School of Art. Her artworks have recently been displayed in galleries in Chelsea (Quebec), Halifax, Montreal, and Ottawa. This is the first artwork by Laurence Finet to be added to the City of Ottawa Art Collection.
